Customized to each community, Goals For A Better Life brings together a winning combination of motivating these children to attend school and be successful in the classroom – while participating in specially designed programs focused on football, ping pong, sports training, music, dance, computer labs, field trips, extracurricular activities and weekend tournaments.
“The most important thing I learned was to share and to tolerate everyone, because we are not all the same and we don’t share the same ideas but we are all still valuable.” Female, 18 years old
“It is proven that sports break bad habits. After training, kids go home tired and they go to sleep instead of hanging around with gangs. Through football and tournaments, they can find many new friends and they see a new reality. This sport is the perfect tool to work with the objective of giving them a better life.” Colombianitos Trainer, (Source: Swiss Academy for Development Independent Survey 2008)
Goals For A Better Life sports and music education also become tools to teach these children personal and social values such as respect, friendship, honesty, tolerance and conflict resolution. With a special emphasis on addressing the social problems within their communities, children’s families attend workshops focused on one specific value each month to strengthen and reinforce a healthier, more positive lifestyle.
